Newest weapons systems mostly get tested in Ukraine – military

The Armed Forces of Ukraine do not currently have agreements with international partners to test the latest weapons systems abroad and are conducting most trials in Ukraine.

Vitalii Dobrianskyi, head of the Central Directorate for Innovation Activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Andrii Kovalyov, a major and media relations officer at the Public Affairs Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this during a briefing at Ukrinform.

"At the moment, no such agreements with international partners have been reached directly through my directorate, because we are still trying to involve the newest systems in testing precisely under the conditions where we operate," Dobrianskyi said.

According to him, Ukraine is developing the necessary testing infrastructure through specialized projects and dedicated testing sites. Experimental combat units are also being created to test equipment in real conditions, allowing the effectiveness of new solutions to be evaluated directly on the frontline.

"We do not involve foreign manufacturers for demonstration shows. We gather the users and demonstrate everything at training grounds," he explained.

The colonel added that his directorate has not yet received specific proposals regarding organizing such tests abroad, although such cooperation may be considered in the future.

Andrii Kovalyov

"The Armed Forces of Ukraine truly occupy one of the leading positions in innovation today," Kovalyov emphasized.

He noted that many armies around the world have modern developments but do not implement them in practice due to the lack of real combat experience. In contrast, Ukrainian manufacturers and the military directly integrate lessons learned on the frontline into their developments.

"Ukraine is fighting here and now… our enemy is constantly improving, constantly learning, and very often steals Ukrainian ideas and technologies and scales them up," Kovalyov said.

He stressed that the experience of full-scale war gives Ukraine an advantage in innovation, while many armies around the world that have not faced direct combat are not preparing for the challenges of future warfare.

As Ukrinform previously reported, the Ukrainian situational awareness system Delta is years ahead of the enemy and has impressed foreign partners.
