US, Russia agree to restore high-level military dialogue
The U.S. European Command reported this in a statement, according to Ukrinform.
The statement notes that this communication channel was suspended in the fall of 2021, just before the start of Russia's full-scale war in Ukraine.
"The reestablishment follows meetings in the United Arab Emirates' capital between Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich, Commander of U.S. European Command, and senior Russian and Ukrainian military officials," the statement said.
It emphasizes that supporting dialogue between militaries "is an important factor in global stability and peace, which can only be achieved through strength, and provides a means for increased transparency and de-escalation."
The U.S. side noted that this channel will ensure ongoing contact between the militaries as the parties continue working toward lasting peace.
As Ukrinform reported, the second day of trilateral meetings involving representatives of Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the negotiating delegations of Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia in Abu Dhabi agreed that their next meeting would be held in the near future.
Axios reported that the United States and Russia are close to reaching an agreement on extending the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START).
