Missile strike on Kharkiv: two killed, 27 injured, search and rescue operations ongoing

In the Kharkiv region, over the past day two people were killed and 27 others injured as a result of Russian attacks; children are among the victims.

The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, stated this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and two settlements in the Kharkiv region came under enemy strikes. As a result of shelling in Kharkiv, a 22-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy were killed; 27 people were injured, including a 6-month-old boy," Syniehubov said.

According to him, the enemy attacked the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv with two Iskander-M missiles.

Russian forces also used two Geran-2 type UAVs, one FPV drone, and three additional UAVs of an as-yet-unidentified type against Kharkiv region.

In Kharkiv, a commercial and office building and part of the entrance section of a four-story apartment building were destroyed. Windows were shattered in 25 buildings, a hospital, and an educational institution, and 33 vehicles were damaged.

In Lozova, a warehouse facility was damaged.

Later, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration spokesperson Anna Hontar told journalists that as of the morning, a total of seven people injured in the missile strike on Kharkiv remain hospitalized. A 52-year-old woman is in intensive care following surgery.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing. There may still be people trapped under the rubble.

As reported earlier, on January 2 in the daytime, Russian forces struck a residential building in Kharkiv with two Iskander missiles. The bodies of a woman and a child were found under the rubble.
