One person was killed and 11 wounded as a result of a strike on a thermal power plant in the Kharkiv region.

This was reported by Mayor Ihor Terekhov on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“The enemy launched a series of targeted strikes on the thermal power plant in the nearest suburb of Kharkiv. This led to a significant drop in voltage in the city, which directly affected heat supply and public transport. Unfortunately, one person was killed. There are wounded,” the post says.

The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, said that 11 people were injured. “The victims have been hospitalized and are receiving highly qualified medical care,” the head of the Regional Military Administration said.

All relevant services are currently conducting inspections and determining the actual extent of the damage, Terekhov said. “Where technically possible, we are forced to switch to ‘energy island’ mode to reduce the impact on Kharkiv residents,” Terekhov added.

As the mayor noted, damage to the power system has also temporarily complicated the operation of electric transport in the Rogani, HTZ, Nova Bavaria, and Kholodna Hora districts.

"Transport workers are already working to stabilize the situation. Metro service has been restored. Emergency power cut schedules have been introduced by Kharkivoblenergo. I ask you to be understanding of the situation. It is important to trust the specialists who are doing their job in extremely difficult conditions," Terekhov wrote.

As reported, Russian troops struck the suburbs of Kharkiv on the morning of December 24. The metro was stopped for half an hour. There are emergency power outages in the city and region.
