Trump on Burevestnik: Putin should end war in Ukraine, not test missiles
Trump made the statement aboard Air Force One during his trip to Asia, Ukrinform reports, citing CNN.
In response to Putin's claims about the successful test of the Burevestnik missile, which allegedly flew 14,000 kilometers, Trump said that American missiles don't need to travel such long distances.
"They know we have a nuclear submarine, the greatest in the world, right off their shore," Trump stated.
He added that a missile from this submarine "doesn't have to go 8,000 miles [13,000 kilometers]."
"They're not playing games with us, we're not playing games with them either. We test missiles all the time," Trump said. He added that in his opinion, Putin should be talking about other things.
"He ought to get the war ended, a war that should have taken one week is now in its fourth year, that's what he ought to do instead of testing missiles," Trump emphasized.
When asked by reporters whether new sanctions against Russia would be imposed, Trump replied: "You'll find out."
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Putin held a meeting yesterday with Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov regarding the test of the nuclear-powered, "unlimited-range" Burevestnik cruise missile.
