Russian missile debris sparks fires in Cherkasy region forests, nearly six hectares damaged
Ukrinform reports this, citing the state enterprise Forests of Ukraine on Facebook.
“As a result of yet another night attack on Cherkasy region, missile fragments caused fires in the forested areas of the Central Forestry Office branch. Pine plantations in the Chorniavske and Horodyshchenske forestries of the Chyhyryn forestry district caught fire,” the statement said.
The total area of damaged forest stands amounts to 5.78 hectares.
The enterprise noted that firefighting efforts were complicated by the presence of unexploded missile fragments in the area.
To extinguish both fires, 31 employees of the state forest protection service, six fire trucks, and a tractor with a soil thrower were deployed.
“We worked together with the State Emergency Service,” the enterprise added.
Currently, brigades are on duty at the sites where the debris fell to prevent reignition. Relevant services are also working to dispose of hazardous fragments.
As reported by Ukrinform earlier, Ukraine’s Air Defense destroyed 611 out of 643 aerial targets launched by Russia on the night of September 28.
