Police officer killed in Russian shelling in Kherson

Senior Investigator Valerii Toharenko of the Criminal Police Sector at Police Department No. 2 (Korabelnyi) was killed in Russia's shelling of Kherson early on September 28.

According to Ukrinform, the National Police of Ukraine reported that Toharenko was on duty at a checkpoint with colleagues when they came under heavy enemy fire. He sustained fatal injuries from one of the strikes.

Toharenko was born in Kherson and began his service in law enforcement in August 2002 as a cadet at the Kherson Law Institute.

He devoted over 20 years to fighting crime, maintaining public order, and ensuring the safety of residents in the Kherson region.

"He was always an example of dedication to service," the National Police said.
