Ukrainian Embassy in Poland clarifies Nawrocki’s veto on law regarding Ukrainian refugees
The Embassy of Ukraine in Poland stated this in a post on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
The Embassy noted that the special law defining the mechanisms for implementing the rights of temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine in Poland in accordance with EU legislation is in effect in Poland until September 30, 2025.
The temporary protection regime for persons displaced from Ukraine has been extended by the decision of the EU Council until March 4, 2027; it remains valid in the territory of the Republic of Poland. The diplomatic mission emphasized that the EU Council's decision on temporary protection is binding for all EU member states, including Poland, is subject to direct application, and its implementation is ensured by national legislation, in particular the Special Act.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Poland is monitoring the development of the situation, remains in constant contact with Polish authorities, and will promptly inform Ukrainian citizens about official decisions.
“We recommend that Ukrainian citizens refrain from hasty decisions, particularly regarding changing their legal status in the Republic of Poland. Each situation requires a separate consultation with a lawyer for a comprehensive analysis of possible legal options,” the diplomats noted.
As reported by Ukrinform, Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced on Monday that he did not sign the amendment to the law on assistance to citizens of Ukraine. Nawrocki justified his decision, among other things, by stating that the 800+ aid should only be provided to Ukrainians who work in Poland.
