Russian forces are trying to establish positions in the villages of Zaporizke and Novoheorhiivka in Dnipropetrovsk region, where fighting continues.

This was reported in a comment to Ukrinform by Viktor Trehubov, Spokesperson for the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group of Troops.

“Fighting is still ongoing there (Zaporizke and Novoheorhiivka). To summarize, yesterday the Russians entered in two small groups: one of eight and one of fifteen personnel, and tried to secure positions and engage in combat. They were pushed back and apparently failed to establish control, although they continue to try,” the spokesperson said.

Trehubov noted that “it is alarming that they (the Russians) reached and tried to secure positions not just on the outskirts, but within the populated areas themselves.”

He also outlined measures being taken to reduce the likelihood of further attacks in Novoheorhiivka.

“Neutralizing the Russians and saturating the line with additional personnel and UAVs. Our main challenge is that the Russians have amassed a fairly large number of troops, and for this ‘summer campaign,’ they are simply sending them in small groups. One mobile group now has stabilized at five personnel, but, for example, they may be preparing 170 such small groups at one training site. They go in fives, but there are 170 of them,” Trehubov explained.

The spokesperson emphasized that the enemy may advance on Ukrainian positions to identify gaps between strongpoints, as well as deliver artillery and drone strikes.

“In this situation, the Russians are using these groups not necessarily to seize the strongpoints, but to move past them and regroup behind them. This was the case in the Pokrovsk sector, and they are attempting the same in the Novopavlivka sector, exploiting their numerical advantage,” he said.

As reported by Ukrinform, over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian Defense Forces recorded 173 combat engagements with Russian forces on the front line.
