Russian shelling sparks fires in Zaporizhzhia region, burning 11 hectares, killing woman

In Ukraine's southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, Russian shelling sparked fires that scorched 11 hectares of land and spread to summer houses, killing one person.

The regional office of the State Emergency Service (SES) reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

According to the statement, over the past day rescuers extinguished 22 wildfires across the region, including three caused by shelling in the Zaporizhzhia and Polohy districts. In total, more than 11 hectares of land were damaged.

"A large-scale fire broke out near a settlement in the Zaporizhzhia district, where dry grass covering 1.5 hectares caught fire and spread to summer houses. Firefighters contained and extinguished the blaze. Unfortunately, a 50-year-old woman was found dead by rescuers during the operation," the SES said.

In total, 154 firefighters and 35 units of equipment were involved in tackling wildfires in the region.
