CCD: Prosecution of Ukrainian soldiers released from captivity for desertion is fake news
According to Ukrinform, the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council reported this on Telegram.
They say that the Ukrainian authorities are initiating criminal cases against all those who have returned from captivity, depriving them of assistance and forcing them to return to the army in “penal battalions.”
The Center emphasizes that this information is not true.
“Such statements are part of a new information campaign aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian authorities, spreading distrust among the population, and undermining morale,” the Center said.
According to Ukrainian law, military personnel released from captivity have the right not to continue their service without any consequences.
In accordance with Article 26 of the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service,” they have the right to be discharged, the CCD explained.
As reported by Ukrinform, Russian propagandists have once again begun spreading a myth that Ukraine is allegedly using a poster with the symbols of the “Galicia” division and a reference to Stepan Bandera for conscription.
