Currently, two camps host Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine while the government intends to launch a third such facility.

That’s according to Yuriy Taraniuk, the representative from the Coordination Staff for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, who spoke at the meeting of the Council on Human Rights, Gender Equality and Diversity at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We have currently created two and now a third separate specialized detention facility is being opened," he said.

The Coordination Headquarters spokesman stated that due to a capacity shortage at some pre-trial detention centers, separate sections were created where Russian prisoners of war can be held (as they are not held together with other categories of persons remanded in custody - ed.).

As reported earlier, the Ombudsman’s Office said Russian prisoners of war are being held in Ukraine in accordance with the requirements of the Geneva Convention, adding that they are allowed to send and receive letters and that jobs have been created for them.
