A delegation of Ukrainian prosecutors met with US Attorney General Merrick Garland as part of a study trip to the USA.

“The delegation head – director of the Coordination Center Veronika Plotnikova – thanked the Attorney General and the team of the Department of Justice for the systematic support for Ukraine in its efforts to restore fairness and ensure high standards of justice,” the Prosecutor General's Office posted on Telegram.

Representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office are undergoing a several-day training focused on the adoption of the U.S. experience in implementing support mechanisms for participants in the criminal process in the context of the investigation into war crimes.

The event is organized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the INL – Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

Special attention is paid to issues of proper interaction with participants in the criminal process in order to promptly respond to challenges related to ensuring their needs at all stages of the proceedings.

The acquired theoretical and practical skills will help form a solid foundation for the work of the Victims and Witnesses Coordination Center — a newly created division at the Prosecutor General's Office.

"Today we are here to adopt the experience of our American colleagues in key aspects of assistance and protection of victims and witnesses to best use it in our daily work. So that every person can feel justice, be protected, and recover as much as possible from the traumas caused by terrible war crimes of the aggressor," Plotnikova emphasized.

The training program consists of a series of meetings, including with representatives of the Department of Justice, the Supreme Court, the police department, and the Center for the Protection of Children's Rights. These meetings will focus in detail on the study of the necessary practices, which will later be applied in the work of Ukrainian prosecutors and experts of the Coordination Center.

As reported, instructors from the USA and Great Britain taught Ukrainian prosecutors to use drones to create 3D models of war crime sites.
