Ukraine's defense forces: Heavy fighting for Staromaiorske continues

Major Valerii Shershen spokesperson for the defense forces of Ukraine of the Tavria sector, said this during an online briefing at the Military Media Center, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, in these areas, Ukraine's defense forces are entrenching themselves on the achieved lines, conducting aerial reconnaissance, clearing mines, and carrying out counter-battery measures.

"In the area of increased attention is heavy fighting for the settlement of Staromaiorske south of Makarivka along the course of the Mokri Yaly River - here the advantage is on our side," Shershen said.

He also reported that in the past 24 hours, units of rocket forces of the defense forces of the Tavria sector launched 12 strikes on artillery systems, firing points and field structures of the enemy. Artillery units completed 1,680 tasks, effectively destroying enemy manpower, equipment, and command centers.

According to him, 41 pieces of the enemy's weapons and military equipment were destroyed in the past 24 hours, including 4 tanks, 12 armored vehicles, 10 artillery systems and mortars, and 3 self-propelled guns. Some 14 enemy ammunition depots were also destroyed.

Earlier reports said that Russian troops had intensified their offensive in the Kupiansk sector in order to regain lost positions and pull Ukrainian forces away from the Bakhmut sector.
