There are less than 1,000 residents left in the Donetsk region’s town of Chasiv Yar, which is situated not far from Bakhmut. Most of them are the elderly who refuse leaving elsewhere.

The relevant statement was made by Chasiv Yar City Military Administration Head Serhii Chaus, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to Radio Liberty [Radio Svoboda].

According to Chaus, prior to Russia’s full-scale invasion, a total of 13,000 people lived in Chasiv Yar. Now, about 950 residents are still remaining there.

“Unfortunately, the number of residents is not decreasing. At the moment, evacuation efforts are carried out at a very slow pace. 80% of those remaining there are the elderly. It is very difficult to work with them in this direction: they refuse moving out and leaving their homes,” Chaus told during a nationwide telethon.

A reminder that Russian troops are continuously attacking the Donetsk region’s Chasiv Yar.
