Russia has not yet provided security guarantees for the UN team to cross over to the left bank of the Dnipro in Kherson region to provide assistance to the victims of the flood caused by the explosion at the Kakhovka HPP dam.

That’s according to a statement by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine, Denise Brown, reports Ukrinform.

The UN has engaged with the governments of Ukraine and the Russian Federation to ensure access to all civilians impacted by the “devastating destruction of the Kakhovka Dam,” the statement reads.

“Operationally, we have boats, personnel and supplies ready to go. However, the Russian Federation is yet to provide the safety guarantees we need to cross the front line to the left bank of the Dnipro River, including to Oleshky," Denise Brown stressed.

The coordinator explained that these guarantees are necessary for the safety of the team and to prevent additional risks for the people the organization intends to help.

She concluded that the UN will continue to deliver life-saving assistance in the areas controlled by Ukraine and make every effort to ensure their team can reach “all people who have been stranded by the floods and urgently require life-saving assistance, no matter where they are.”

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on the night of June 6, the Russian army blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam. In Kherson region, the rescue and evacuation operation is ongoing in the flood-affected areas. The situation is especially difficult in the temporarily occupied territories, whereRussian invaders provide no assistance to Ukrainian citizens.
