Ukraine seeing decreasing number of Russian troops in Belarus

That’s according to Andrii Demchenko, the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"Currently, according to our data, a little more than 4,000 Russian military servicemen remain on the territory of Belarus, but they are mainly involved either in joint drills or training that is ongoing in Belarus. This number is slightly lower than we observed before. That’s because Russia moved the units that had completed training from the territory of Belarus to its territory for further deployment, including to the east of our country, where full-scale combat operations are being conducted," the spokesman told the national telethon.

Earlier, the spokesman emphasized that engineering works to fortify the border line are continuing in order to prevent the invasion and enable Ukraine’s defense forces to repel enemy attacks. Therefore, a 2-km land strip along the entire border with Belarus and Russia, regardless of ownership rights, shall be controlled by the State Border Guard Service to strengthen defense line and prepare for a possible onslaught.

As reported, the spokesman for the U.S. National Security Council, John Kirby, said on March 21 that Russia was likely to make a new attempt at a large-scale attack on Ukraine and that the coming weeks will be critical for Ukraine.
