Ukrainian farmers already sown 293,000 ha with spring crops – Agrarian Policy Ministry

Farmers in 18 regions throughout Ukraine have started the spring sowing campaign, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

"All categories of households have sown 293 thousand ha with grain and leguminous crops, including 76.1 thousand ha with spring wheat, 168.1 thousand ha with spring barley, 35.3 thousand ha with peas, and 14, 2,000 ha with oats,” the report says.

Almost 210,000 ha were sown with grain and leguminous crops over the past week, with Ternopil region being in lead – 47.2 thousand ha. In total, farmers of this region have already sown 67.6 thousand ha with spring crops.

In Vinnytsia, Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi and Cherkasy regions, farmers have started sowing sugar beets. Odesa region has started sunflower seed sowing.

 As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food projects that 5,700.1 thousand ha will be sown with spring crops in 2023, which is 206.5 thousand ha less than last year.
