The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has called on the international community to support the creation of a special tribunal regarding Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine.

The ministry said this in a statement on the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime, Ukrinform reportsw.

The ministry noted that Russian aggression against Ukraine, which has been going on for the eighth year, has clear signs of genocide, and the criminal Kremlin regime is the "conscientious heir" of its Stalinist predecessor: it also aims to destroy Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, erase Ukrainian ethnic and cultural identity and deny the rich history of the Ukrainian state and nation.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the international community to strengthen pressure on the Russian Federation, increase the amount of military and humanitarian aid to the government of Ukraine, facilitate the proper investigation into and documentation of Russian crimes in Ukraine, as well as to support the creation of a special tribunal regarding Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine in order to hold Russia and its leadership to account," the statement said.

The diplomats noted that they would continue to work to ensure the official recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

"Today it has already been recognized by 19 countries in different parts of the world. We express our sincere gratitude to them for such support and call on countries that have not yet done so to adopt the relevant documents at the legislative level," the ministry said.

On December 15, the European Parliament is expected to consider a resolution recognizing the Holodomor as genocide against the Ukrainian people.
