France ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine after war - Reuters

France is ready to become a guarantor of Ukraine's security after the war with Russia is over.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, this was reported by Reuters, citing a French presidential adviser.

"Our country is ready to provide security guarantees. It would be military supplies so that it can deal with a new attack or, possibly, guarantees that would see us get involved if Ukraine is attacked in a way where we could assess how to assist it," the French official said.

These guarantees would look more like the defense clause the EU currently has among its members, rather than a defense mechanism similar to NATO's Article 5, the French official said.

The system of future international security guarantees for Ukraine was one of the topics discussed during talks between the leaders of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Japan, the EU and NATO on Tuesday.

Other topics included further military, financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, as well as the involvement of a wider range of states in the anti-Russian coalition.

On February 24, Russia launched a new phase of its eight-year war against Ukraine - a full-scale offensive. The enemy has been shelling and bombing peaceful Ukrainian cities, towns and villages. The Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Territorial Defense Forces and all people of Ukraine are effectively resisting Russian troops, inflicting heavy losses on them.
