Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine had so far taken more than 4,000 Russian servicemen prisoner, while about 7,000 Ukrainian POWs are currently being held in Russian captivity.

The head of state said this while speaking with journalists in Munich on Saturday, Ukrinform reports.

"Prisoner exchanges. They [the Russians] are currently holding about 7,000 Ukrainian prisoners of war. We, at this moment, have more than 4,000. This is good news, because we used to have 1,500. Now we have slightly more than 4,000. That means we can carry out exchanges," he said.

Zelensky noted that the ideal scenario would be for the Russian side to agree to an "all-for-all" exchange. At the same time, Ukraine is also ready for "1,000 for 1,000" prisoner swaps.

"It would be good if they were ready even for '100 for 100.' Any step in this direction is a positive decision for us," he said.

The latest prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia took place on February 5, 2026, with 157 Ukrainians returning home.
