Zelensky, Trudeau talk threats Nord Stream 2 poses for Europe's energy security
As part of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed the threat Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project is posing for European energy security.
That’s according to President Zelensky’s press service.
The head of state congratulated Trudeau on his party’s victory in the early parliamentary elections.
The president also noted “Canada's continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and briefed on the current security situation in Donbas and the progress of peace talks.”
Zelensky thanked Trudeau for supporting Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations and expressed hope for Canada's leadership role in backing Ukraine's NATO membership aspirations.
“The parties discussed the threat posed by the Nord Stream 2 project to Europe's energy security, the energy crisis and measures to combat it,” the report reads.
Also, Zelensky briefed Trudeau on the progress of reforms, including infrastructure development, land reform and digitalization.
In addition, the president spoke of Ukraine’s strategy toward "green" transformation.
The head of state expressed hope for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries and expanding the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Canada, which is already yielding positive results.
The parties also talked simplifying travel to Canada for Ukrainian citizens.
President Zelensky invited Prime Minister Trudeau to pay a visit to Ukraine, the press service says.
