Additional teams deployed in Kyiv to restore heating – Shmyhal
This was reported by First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
Shmyhal said that on Sunday, January 18, another meeting of the task force for eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation in the electricity systems of Kyiv and the Kyiv region was held. Coordination of all services and speed of restoration are key factors for stabilizing the situation in the capital and surrounding areas.
Regarding heating: due to low temperatures and aging infrastructure, local outages are occurring continuously. Repair crews are working to restore heat in 143 buildings, with the goal of accelerating repairs as much as possible. To support the city, additional teams have been brought in: 10 crews from Ukrzaliznytsia and eight from the Kyiv region. Tomorrow, more teams from Rivne and additional railway crews will arrive.
Regarding electricity and technical solutions, Shmyhal noted that the situation remains difficult, with cold weather adding extra strain. Currently, 60 teams are working on restoring power, including 12 brought in from other regions.
“We are working on systemic solutions. Additional 55 generators are being delivered from the Ministry of Energy’s reserve hub,” the First Deputy Prime Minister said.
Together with the Ministry for Restoration, authorities are verifying all cogeneration plants to quickly bring additional capacity online. Bureaucratic procedures for connection are being simplified due to the emergency situation.
“Energy workers and utility services are working around the clock. Together, we are doing everything to restore light and heat to Ukrainian homes as quickly as possible,” Shmyhal assured.
As previously reported, during the energy emergency in Ukraine, flexible curfew rules are being introduced, with Kyiv set to be the first to implement the measure.
