UK to provide additional GBP 10M to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure

This was announced by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper ahead of the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, December 3, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“I am announcing the UK’s additional 10 million pounds to support energy infrastructure repairs in Ukraine, because President Putin is seeking to switch the lights off and plunge Ukraine into darkness,” Cooper said.

The minister noted that in recent days she has observed efforts by President Trump and the United States to pursue a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine and its people, while President Zelensky has expressed readiness for a ceasefire and peaceful resolution.

“What we have seen is President Putin simply seeks to escalate the war, and we’ve seen over the weekend that they are continuing heavy strikes that have led to power being switched off for hundreds of thousands of people,” Cooper added.

In this context, she emphasized that the United Kingdom will continue to work “to switch the lights back on.”

As reported by Ukrinform, following a massive Russian attack on November 29, 500,000 consumers in Kyiv were left without electricity, and around 100,000 in the region.
