Zelensky honors Ukrainian Paralympians after six medals on opening day

Ukrinform
President Volodymyr Zelensky has praised Ukrainian Paralympians who won six medals on the first day of competition.

According to Ukrinform, the head of state said this in his evening video address.

“Today I want to commend our Ukrainian Paralympians. On the very first day of competition, Ukraine has already won six medals – three gold, one silver, and two bronze. And what is important is that the Ukrainian flag and the Ukrainian anthem will now be featured proudly and prominently in Italy – prominently, in particular, for those immoral sports officials who allowed Russians to compete during a war of aggression and permitted them to carry their flag – the flag of war. Life must be protected. War must be brought to an end. I thank everyone who helps Ukraine in exactly this way, taking care of life and people just like this,” Zelensky said.

As Ukrinform previously reported, the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games opened on March 6, 2026, in Milan, Italy. In total, the Ukrainian “blue-and-yellow” team secured 25 qualification spots for the 2026 Winter Paralympics.

The International Paralympic Committee allowed six Russian and four Belarusian athletes to compete at the 2026 Winter Paralympics under their national flags.

Minister of Youth and Sports Matvii Bidnyi said that despite the IPC’s decision to restore the rights of athletes from Russia and Belarus, Ukraine will continue its efforts and media pressure.
