Ukraine wins its first gold medal at 2026 Winter Paralympics

Biathlete Taras Rad took Ukraine's first gold medal at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympic Games.

Twenty-eight para-biathletes took part in the men's sitting sprint race. Among them were five Ukrainians: Oleksandr Aleksyk, Pavlo Bal, Vasyl Kravchuk, Taras Rad, and Hryhorii Shymko, according to Ukrinform.

Taras Rad crossed the finish line in 19:55.5 minutes and completed the distance without any misses.

Chinese athletes took second and third place. Liu Mengtao finished 9.3 seconds behind (0 misses), and Liu Zixu finished +17.6 (0).

This is Rad's second Paralympic gold medal after his triumph in Beijing in the 12.5 km race.
