Environmental damage from shelling of Korosten in early April reaches nearly UAH 1 billion
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Polissia District, according to Ukrinform.
“In particular, at the sites where critical infrastructure was hit and in the Brovar neighborhood, land contamination has been recorded over a total area exceeding 22,000 square meters. The total amount of damage exceeds UAH 986.5 million,” the statement said.
The agency added that the affected area is roughly equivalent to three football fields, covered with debris and destruction waste.
Additionally, fires at the impact sites released more than 200 tons of carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the air, causing environmental damage estimated at over UAH 1.9 million.
Thus, the total environmental damage exceeds UAH 988 million.
The inspection authority added that the relevant materials and calculations have been handed over to law enforcement agencies to document war crimes against the environment and to pursue reparations from the aggressor state within criminal proceedings under Articles 441 and 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.
As reported by Ukrinform, one person was killed and ten others were injured in the missile and drone attack in Zhytomyr region on April 3.
