About 47,000 civilians remain in Sloviansk community, up to 1,000 evacuate weekly
This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by Vadym Liakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration.
“The Sloviansk community includes the city of Sloviansk, three nearby settlements, and one village. As of today, the population is about 47,000; before the full-scale invasion, it was 110,000… Now we see that up to 1,000 people, including families with children, leave the Sloviansk community every week,” Liakh said.
He noted that evacuation has been ongoing since the first day of the war. He also recalled that in certain areas, mandatory evacuation of children has been introduced, carried out together with their parents or legal guardians.
“Recently, there were 96 children in these areas; now 29 remain. These territories include three districts located along the Kyiv–Dovzhanskyi highway,” he added.
Liakh once again urged residents to evacuate, stressing that evacuation saves lives.
According to him, in 2022 after the start of the full-scale invasion, about 15,000 people remained in the city of Sloviansk and around 18,000 in the wider community.
“This is what made it possible for people to survive. The strikes were severe, but there were not many people living in apartment buildings, so the number of casualties was relatively low,” he explained.
As reported, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 16:00 on Monday, April 27, Russian troops conducted four assault operations in the Sloviansk direction toward Zakytne and Rai-Oleksandrivka. One of them is ongoing.
