Witkoff states that “way for new future” opens up for Israel and Gaza Strip
As reported by Ukrinform, he wrote about this on the social network X.
“Yesterday was a historic day. The last remaining hostage in Gaza, Officer Ran Gvili, has been returned home to his family in Israel. He went out on October 7 to save lives, and yesterday he returned to rest in peace in Israel,” he wrote.
He also noted that, in addition to Gvili's remains, the bodies of 27 dead Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip and 20 living hostages had previously been returned.
“This closes a painful chapter for many, and paves the way for a new future that can be defined by peace, not war, and prosperity, not destruction. It’s a new day in the Middle East, and President Trump, myself, and the entire team are committed to sustained peace and prosperity for all in the region,” Witkoff added.
As reported by Ukrinform, on January 15, the US announced the transition to the next stage of President Donald Trump's plan for a ceasefire in Gaza, which provides for the disarmament of Hamas, the reconstruction of destroyed territories, and the creation of a Palestinian administration that will govern Gaza under US supervision.
To this end, Trump launched his new international initiative, the Board of Peace, inviting dozens of countries to join it. It is expected that the new administration will govern Gaza under the supervision of the Board of Peace.
At the same time, a detailed plan for the reconstruction and economic transformation of the Gaza Strip was presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos, aiming to turn the enclave into a “regional economic center” by 2035.
On Monday, January 26, Israel announced that the remains of the last hostage had been found in Gaza, paving the way for the next phase of the truce between Israel and Hamas.
