Restoration of electric transport in Kyiv complicated by accidents - KCMA

The return of ground electric transport in Kyiv to full operation is complicated by numerous accidents and weather conditions.

This was reported on television by KCMA spokeswoman Kateryna Pop, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

"The issue here is related to electricity suppliers, namely DTEK. They are currently dictating the conditions for restoration, for the city to return to normal life with electricity, because there are a lot of accidents, and they are very difficult to repair in such weather conditions. But obviously, the current trend is not conducive to the rapid restoration of ground electric transport," Pop said.

She added that there are duplicate routes, but they are insufficient due to the transfer of transport units from less busy routes.

“We must gradually return to stable schedules, and then electric transport will be restored,” the spokeswoman explained.

According to her, the power supply situation in Kyiv is stabilizing, emergency crews are working, and heat supply is gradually being restored in all high-rise buildings.

"The situation is stabilizing by the hour, even despite the difficult weather conditions, and energy workers are doing their job. Emergency power cuts are still in place because there are many accidents in the networks, but the trend is improving. Electricity is even being supplied to consumers for a little more than a few hours, as DTEK has stated. Therefore, the situation is improving, and people can feel it in their homes," Pop said.

The spokeswoman added that due to local accidents and power surges, some homes may remain without power even if the network is connected.

"For such users, we immediately advise: leave requests on the hotline and record your calls, because the switchboards or internal networks cannot withstand the load. Immediately after the power is turned on, a lot of devices are turned on," she explained.

Regarding heat supply, Pop said that about 150 teams from different regions have been involved in restoring heat supply.

"Currently, virtually all heat supply networks are being launched. Perhaps this process will take a little longer due to the lack of stable electricity and heat supply to homes from the upper floors, but in fact, within the next few days, heat supply on the first floors will be restored in all high-rise buildings. We hope this will be the case, provided there is no further shelling and no power outages due to weather conditions," the spokeswoman concluded.

As reported by Ukrinform, energy companies in the capital have completed repairs to critical infrastructure following the attack on January 20. It is noted that due to the destruction of the capital's power generation facilities by the enemy, the situation remains most difficult in parts of the Dniprovskyi and Desnianskyi districts. In total, about 44,000 consumers remain without electricity.

As of the morning of January 21, about 4,000 houses in Kyiv were without heat, and almost 60% of the capital was without electricity.
