Energy shortages forecast in Crimea due to sanctions against Russia – media
This was reported by the Krym Realii project, Ukrinform said.
According to Vyacheslav Afanasyev, director general of the Unified Dispatching Administration of the power system of southern Russia, the total electricity deficit in the occupied peninsula and Russia’s neighboring Krasnodar region is estimated at around 2,000 MW. Foreign-installed equipment requires major repairs, but this is impossible under the sanctions imposed on Russia.
By 2031, this equipment will have completely exhausted its service life, Afanasyev noted.
As reported earlier, Crimea has recently experienced frequent and large-scale power outages. Russian authorities claim that during the summer they are caused by abnormally high temperatures. However, the outages may also be the result of damage to power facilities, including due to military actions, as well as failures of power grids and equipment.
