Fifty Ukrainian citizens who were deported from the United States have returned to Ukraine.

Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service (SBGS), said this in a comment to Ukrinform.

"Today, 50 citizens were returned from the United States via the Shehyni checkpoint on the border with Poland. They were documented with the appropriate documents confirming their Ukrainian citizenship or documents allowing their return," Demchenko said.

According to the spokesperson, Ukraine had previously received information from the U.S. regarding plans, in accordance with international law, to deport several individuals without U.S. citizenship, who are originally from Ukraine, via transit through Poland.

At present, border guards have ensured their proper registration for entry into Ukraine in accordance with established legal procedures, Demchenko said.

He stressed that Ukraine accepts its citizens in all cases. The circumstances that led to the decision to deport these individuals are still being clarified, he added.
