One in nine Russians has no access to clean drinking water — intelligence

One in nine Russians does not have access to clean drinking water.

This was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.

According to its data, contaminated drinking water led to 11,000 deaths in Russia last year. Another 1.4 million people fell ill: in 35.1% of cases, diseases of the digestive system were diagnosed, in 27% of the genitourinary system, and in 13.3% of the skin and subcutaneous tissue.

Statistics on high and extremely high levels of pollution of water bodies in the aggressor country have increased significantly: over the year, 3,095 cases were detected in at least 334 water bodies.

Fifty-six percent of pollution was recorded in the Volga and Ob river basins. High levels were also observed in the Dnipro, Yenisei (including the Angara tributary), Don, Amur, Neva, and Ural rivers.

In total, adverse environmental factors in the Russian Federation caused about 20,300 deaths and 2.8 million cases of disease last year. Compared to 2022, mortality increased by 37% and the number of diseases by 30%.

As reported by Ukrinform, intelligence data shows that Russia is rapidly entering a phase of systemic degradation of its infrastructure, economy, and agriculture. The consequences of climate change will only deepen the crisis.
