Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), has detained Ruslan Magamedrasulov, a senior detective at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), on charges of aiding the Russian Federation.

That is according to the Prosecutor General's Office, Ukrinform reports.

"The Prosecutor General's Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, has exposed and detained the head of a NABU territorial unit, Ruslan Magamedrasulov. He is being prepared for formal suspicion of aiding the aggressor state under Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," the statement reads.

Investigators say Magamedrasulov, the head of the NABU unit stationed in Dnipro, coordinated NABU's operations in frontline regions of Ukraine. However, he maintained ties with Russian contacts and negotiated deals with representatives of Russia's economic sector to sell industrial hemp.

"Specifically, Ruslan Magamedrasulov acted as an intermediary in the sale of industrial hemp to the Republic of Dagestan (Russian Federation). The hemp was illegally cultivated by his father, entrepreneur Sentyabr Magamedrasulov. In doing so, the NABU official facilitated unlawful trade with Russia and contributed to harming Ukraine," the statement said.

The investigation also revealed Magamedrasulov had close connections with Fedir Khrystenko, a former MP from the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party. Khrystenko has fled the country and is reportedly collaborating with Russian intelligence services, exerting influence over NABU operations.

Law enforcement is currently verifying possible contacts between the detained detective and Russian intelligence, including the potential transfer of classified information, such as case-related materials.

Despite being officially assigned to Dnipro and frontline regions, Magamedrasulov spent most of his time in Kyiv and recently vacationed for several weeks on Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Authorities are taking comprehensive measures to determine all circumstances of the case and hold those involved accountable.

Earlier reports said that the SBU and the Prosecutor General's Office were conducting a special operation to counter Russian influence within NABU.
