Ukrinform ranked among top media for adherence to journalism standards in May – IMI

Ukrinform
According to May monitoring results, Ukrinform was included in the list of online media outlets with a journalistic standards compliance rate of over 95%.

The Institute of Mass Information (IMI) said this in a statement seen by Ukrinform.

In May, the highest levels of adherence to professional standards in news reporting — exceeding 95% — were demonstrated by the following outlets: Babel, Hromadske, Suspilne, Espreso, Liga.net, ZN.ua, Ukrainska Pravda, LB.ua, Ukrinform, and Novynarnia.

These findings come from IMI's regular monitoring of professional standards in online news reporting.

The lowest compliance rate was recorded on the Telegraf website, with less than 50%.

IMI noted that, overall, the level of journalistic standards in Ukrainian online media remains stable. However, high-quality media have slightly improved their performance, while outlets with a high share of low-quality content have seen a decline. This trend becomes evident when comparing results with IMI's previous study in December 2024.

"Therefore, it can be assumed that editorial teams are consciously choosing their path. Some strive to uphold professional standards by providing accurate, balanced, and well-structured news, while others are increasingly disguising entertainment or advertising content as 'news'," said Dmytro Barkar, an IMI media expert.

The full analysis of professional standards across leading online media outlets is available at the following link.

The monitoring sample included 23 popular Ukrainian online media outlets, including Babel, Hromadske, Suspilne, ZN.ua, Ukrainska Pravda, Espreso, Ukrinform, Liga.net, NV, LB.ua, Censor.net, Interfax-Ukraine, TSN, Korrespondent.net, RBC-Ukraine, Focus, UNIAN, Channel 24, Oboz.ua, Telegraf, Gordon, Rubryka, and Novynarnia.

Using IMI's monitoring bot, 50 news items were extracted from each website's news feed, specifically those published after 09:00 on May 20 and 22, 2025.

All selected news items were manually analyzed by IMI experts based on a standardized methodology.

In late March, a practical guide titled "Journalistic Work in Wartime: Challenges, Dilemmas, and Solutions (Experience of Ukrainian Newsrooms)" was presented in Kyiv.
