At the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, the best-trained rescuers from Ukraine's State Emergency Service are tackling the aftermath of a Russian drone strike.

The State Emergency Service informed this on its website, Ukrinform reports.

"In the first stage, fire and rescue units were working. Now we have emergency rescue units - our best-trained mountain climbers," said Andriy Danyk, head of the State Emergency Service.

He noted that the work of the rescuers is complicated by sub-zero temperatures, snow and icing on the structure. To dismantle the damaged parts of the containment and prevent the insulation from decaying, they are working directly outside the protective structure - at an altitude of more than 100 meters.

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre of the State Emergency Service is continuously monitoring the air quality. As of 15:00, the radiation background at the industrial site near the Chornobyl nuclear power plant did not exceed the permissible levels.

As reported by Ukrinform, on the night of February 14, a Russian attack drone hit a protective shield covering the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chornobyl NPP.

On the evening of February 14, the fire caused by the Russian drone strike in the outer cladding of the New Safe Confinement (NSC) arch at the Chornobyl NPP was extinguished.
