Crimean political prisoner, civilian journalist Seiran Saliiev was denied a transfer from a colony in the Tula region of the Russian Federation to a penitentiary institution located closer to home.

That's according to his wife Mumine Saliyeva, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

"The activist appealed to the Federal Penitentiary Service with a request to transfer him to a prison closer to Crimea. In a written refusal, the staff referred to Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: convicts under it are sent strictly to certain penitentiary institutions," the statement said.

It is noted that currently, the political prisoner has practically no opportunity to see his family.

It is specified that in the barracks, where Saliiev is illegally detained, there are about 100 people at the same time.

"Some prisoners cannot remember his name. The activist suggested calling him "Crimea", the representative office noted.
