On the eve of Refugee Day, Pope Francis has called on the whole world not to forget about the "martyred Ukraine."

That's according to Vatican News, Ukrinform reports.

"And let's keep endurance in prayer for the population of the martyred Ukraine, let's not forget that it is suffering a lot," the Pope said.

The patriarch's meeting with the faithful in St. Peter's Square on June 18 was the first after his hospitalization.

The previous general audience of Pope Francis, which took place before his operation in the hospital, also ended with a similar call on Ukraine.

On May 1, Pope Francis said the Vatican was participating in a peacekeeping mission to try to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

Pope Francis entrusted Cardinal Matteo Zuppi with a special mission related to the war in Ukraine.

On June 5, Pope Francis' special envoy paid a visit to the Kyiv suburb of Bucha.
