Selection Commission starts accepting documents from candidates for HQCJ members

The Selection Commission for the selection of candidates for the positions of members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine (HQCJ) has started accepting documents from those wishing to take part in the competition.

That's according to the announcement of the competition, Ukrinform reports.

"Documents from candidates willing to participate in the competition will be accepted from February 4, 2022, until March 4, 2022," the document said.

According to the announcement, "a member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine may be a citizen of Ukraine who speaks the state language, has higher legal education, professional experience in the field of law for at least fifteen years, and meets the criteria of integrity, professional competence determined by this Law ['On the Judiciary and the Status of Judges']."

In addition, a member of the HQCJ must adhere to political neutrality, may not belong to political parties, trade unions, and participate in any political activity.

On January 21, the Selection Commission for the selection of candidates for the positions of members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges held its first meeting.

This commission was established as a subsidiary body of the High Council of Justice to conduct a competitive selection and compile a list of candidates to be appointed by the High Council of Justice as members of the HCJC.

The Selection Commission is expected to select 32 candidates, who have at least 15 years of professional experience in the field of law and comply with integrity and professional competence criteria based on the results of an open and transparent competitive process. From the list of 32 candidates, the High Council of Justice will appoint 16 members of the HQCJ.
