The gingerbread model of the Swallow's Nest castle in the Ukrainian Crimea, presented by the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States, won the international Gingerbread Diplomacy contest.

The culinary contest took place in the center of Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, the Embassy of Ukraine told Ukrinform.

"Every embassy accredited in Washington had to create a culinary art project, presenting one of the showplaces of their country. Of course, we chose the topic of Crimea and won first prize," the Ukrainian diplomatic mission informed.

The Gingerbread Diplomacy contest, organized by the Office of Foreign Missions at the U.S. Department of State, is essentially one of the manifestations of cultural diplomacy.

"For our country, it was also an opportunity to remind that Crimea is Ukraine," the Embassy of Ukraine noted.

The gingerbread model of the Swallow's Nest castle was created by Naira Oborska, the wife of a Ukrainian diplomat. Next to the model, the note explaining the situation with the temporarily occupied Crimea and telling the story of Swallow's Nest castle as a landmark of Ukraine was provided.

The Swallow's Nest, built in the form of a medieval knight's castle on a 40-meter cliff of Cape Ai-Todor, is a showplace of the Ukrainian Crimea.
