Former Kyiv mayor Omelchenko dies from COVID-19

Former Kyiv Mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko, who worked as a Kyiv City Council deputy, has died after contracting COVID-19.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"Today Oleksandr Omelchenko has passed away. [...] He was a former mayor of the capital, chairman of Kyiv City State Administration, MP, Kyiv City Council deputy. [...] I extend my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Oleksandr Oleksandrovych," Klitschko wrote.

Omelchenko was earlier hospitalized with COVID-19.
