Almost half of Ukrainians support path towards EU membership

Forty-eight percent of Ukrainians believe that the country should move towards integration into the European Union.

"The majority of Ukrainians (48%) believe that Ukraine should move towards integration into the European Union," Serhiy Shapovalov, analyst at the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, said presenting the results of a nationwide representative poll at the Ukrinform news agency.

According to him, there are 13% of supporters of integration into Russia and almost a third of respondents do not want to integrate into any of the unions.

At the same time, 42% of Ukrainians support Ukraine's accession to NATO, 11% support a military alliance with Russia, while 34% of respondents support non-aligned status.

The vast majority of citizens (85%) share a national identity and consider themselves primarily citizens of Ukraine.

The nationwide poll was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation jointly with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology in all regions of Ukraine except for Crimea and the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions on December 5-13, 2020.
