Second Honorary Consulate of Ukraine opens in Denmark

The Honorary Consulate of Ukraine opens in the city of Outrup, Southern Denmark.

“The Honorary Consulate will be opened in Outrup (municipality of Varde) in the region of Southern Denmark, where about 5,000 Ukrainians live. This is the second Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Denmark. The first one was opened in Aarhus in 2006,” the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Denmark informs.

On 30 November, Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark Mykhailo Vydoinyk on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine signed an Agreement with Danish citizen Tom Axelgaard on consular functions and official duties of the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Outrup.

According to a Letter of Commission issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on 22 October Tom Axelgaard is appointed Honorary Consul for Ukraine in Outrup with jurisdiction over the Region of Southern Denmark. The exequatur for its activities was approved by the Royal Decree of 17 November and signed by the Head of the Protocol of the Kingdom of Denmark on 24 November.

 “According to the Agreement, the main official duties of the Honorary Consul will be, in particular, to protect, in accordance with international law, the interests of Ukraine, of legal entities and citizens of Ukraine within the consular district of the Region of Southern Denmark, to assist and to help citizens of Ukraine, and legal entities of Ukraine on the territory of Denmark, as well as to promote the development of trade, economic, cultural and scientific ties between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Denmark, and the development of friendly relations between the two countries,” the Embassy informs.

During the ceremony, Tom Axelgaard said: “The future can be very bright for Ukraine, which is such a fantastic country. I will certainly do my best to promote that both in Denmark and in Ukraine.”

Ambassador Vydoinyk expressed hope that the activities of the new Honorary Consul would give an additional impetus to the further development of Ukrainian-Danish cooperation, in particular in trade and investment, and would also contribute to “expanding the circle of friends of Ukraine”.

Axelgaard is a well-known Danish businessman, founder and owner of the Goodvalley agro-industrial concern which has been operating in the Ukrainian market since 2004 and is one of three major pork producers.
