EU loan allows us to increase air defense production and protect energy infrastructure – Zelensky
He made the statement during a joint press briefing in Cyprus with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“We are very thankful for great progress today: a EUR 90 billion support package and a sanctions package, which is also a great signal. We will work to make sure the funds are delivered as soon as possible,” Zelensky said.
He stressed that this will strengthen Ukraine’s army and help prepare better for the coming winter.
“For us this is important, and it will strengthen, of course, our army, Ukrainian forces, and allow us to boost production of air defense systems and work more to protect our energy system for the winter. Together we will solve many issues of protecting lives. And of course, we will keep working to push Russia to real diplomacy to end this war,” the President said.
As Ukrinform reported, the President of the European Council António Costa announced the unblocking of a EUR 90 billion loan to support Ukraine for 2026–2027 and the approval of the 20th sanctions package against Russia.
President Zelensky is personally attending the informal European Council meeting in Cyprus.
