Ukraine is aware that Russia is holding talks with the United States regarding the possible lifting of sanctions, but Kyiv hopes that the U.S. will not make such concessions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in remarks to journalists, Ukrinform reports.

"We know that Russia is conducting dialogues with representatives of the United States about a possible removal of sanctions. We strongly believe that the U.S. will not yield to such concessions," Zelensky said.

He stressed that lifting sanctions on Russia would deliver a serious blow to Ukraine and a significant reputational hit to the international community.

"How can sanctions be lifted on Russia when it is the aggressor? It would set a precedent that others could follow, and not in a positive way," he added.

Previously, Zelensky stated that Russia seeks to exploit the situation around Iran to escape sanctions and gain additional resources amid fluctuations in oil and gas prices.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States was temporarily lifting some oil-related sanctions to help stabilize energy prices.
