Ukraine initiates amendments to IAEA Statute – Sybiha
Sybiha stated this on the social network X, according to Ukrinform.
Sybiha noted that the IAEA Statute currently does not provide for any response measures when a state deliberately undermines the conditions for the safe and secure use of nuclear energy while continuing to fully enjoy its governing rights within the Agency.
"Ukraine proposes a clear mechanism of disqualification from IAEA decision-making in such cases... I have instructed our Permanent Mission in Vienna to submit our proposals to the IAEA Secretariat and circulate them among Member States," he said.
He added that this is not about politics, but about the authority of the organization, safety, and justice.
As Ukrinform reported, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed at an extraordinary meeting of the organization that Russia's systematic attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure pose a direct nuclear threat.
