Ukrainian MFA summons Hungarian ambassador over anti-Ukrainian statements by Budapest
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
The diplomat was reminded that Ukraine categorically opposes Hungary’s attempts to involve Ukraine in its election campaign, which openly harms the development of bilateral relations.
The Foreign Ministry called on the Hungarian side to halt aggressive anti-Ukrainian rhetoric to avoid negative consequences for relations between the two neighboring countries.
The ministry also emphasized that Ukraine remains ready to develop constructive cooperation with Hungary. In this context, it reiterated the need to unblock Ukraine’s accession negotiations with the European Union, which undoubtedly serves the interests of both nations and the Hungarian minority in Ukraine.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, on January 27, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban instructed that the Ukrainian ambassador, Fedir Shandor, be summoned over alleged threats to Hungary’s parliamentary elections.
Hungary’s parliamentary elections are scheduled for April 12. According to recent polls, Hungary’s main opposition party, Tisa, has widened its lead over Orban’s ruling party, Fidesz.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha recently announced that Ukraine is ending its policy of diplomatic “non-engagement” with Hungary and intends to respond decisively and proportionally to unfriendly actions and anti-Ukrainian rhetoric.
