President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the capital's authorities had not done enough to prepare for an emergency in the energy sector. The situation will now be overseen at the government level.

The head of state announced this after a special energy conference call on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“The situation in Kyiv is particularly difficult—the city authorities have wasted time, and now the government will have to fix what was not done at the city level. A permanent headquarters for the capital has already been formed, and its work will be supervised at the government level. I expect full cooperation and interaction from the local authorities,” Zelensky said.

At the same time, he commended the regional and city authorities of Kharkiv for their highly responsible approach to organizing the energy sector in emergency circumstances.

“We have taken into consideration requests from the Dnipropetrovsk region – Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, other cities and communities in the region. I have instructed the government to separately review the requests and the situation in the Chernihiv region,” the President said.

Separately, according to him, the situation in the Boryspil and Brovary districts of the Kyiv region was discussed on the conference call.

“The situation in the Sumy region is not easy – we are trying to help. I am expecting reports on the implementation of the measures that have been decided upon this evening,” Zelensky summed up the situation in the crisis regions.

As reported, in a video address yesterday, Zelensky announced that a state of emergency would be declared in Ukraine's energy sector and instructed the government to review the rules of curfew during extreme cold weather.
