The upper chamber of the Czech Parliament does not currently plan to remove the Ukrainian flag from its building.

The Senate press service stated this in a comment to Ukrinform.

"The decision on the use of national flags on the headquarters of the Senate is made by the Senate President in accordance with the rules of the upper chamber. Senate President Milos Vystrcil currently does not plan to remove the Ukrainian flag, which has been hanging on the facade of Wallenstein Palace since February 22, 2022," the press service said.

As previously reported, the first official institution to remove the Ukrainian flag was the Chamber of Deputies (the lower chamber of the Czech Parliament). This was done at the beginning of November on the very first day after his election by Speaker Tomio Okamura.

On January 7, the flag also disappeared from the government building. However, Ukrinform was assured that this does not affect the issue of support for Ukraine. As the press service explained, the government building now displays the "standard combination of flags" as before – the flags of the Czech Republic and the European Union. The Ukrainian flag will still be raised on days of significant events.

Ukrainian flags appeared en masse in Prague and other cities in the Czech Republic immediately after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Besides government buildings and Parliament, they were widely displayed on public transport, municipal building facades, and in windows of private homes as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
