The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine discussed the provision of weapons, aircraft, and surface-to-air guided missiles to Ukraine to strengthen air defense during talks with the Director General of the NATO International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Remigijus Baltrėnas.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was announced by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.

The talks were attended by Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Brigadier General Oleksii Shevchenko; Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Anatolii Kryvonozhko; as well as other officials of the General Staff and military command bodies.

It is noted that Lieutenant General Baltrėnas has arrived in Kyiv for the second time this year. The International Military Staff is the executive body of NATO’s Military Committee and serves as the main link between the Alliance’s senior political bodies and its strategic commands. The Staff is responsible for providing assessments, conducting studies, and preparing documents on NATO military matters.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the latest visit by the Director General of the NATO International Military Staff is a clear signal of the Alliance’s solidarity with and support for Ukraine in repelling Russia’s full-scale aggression.

Representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine briefed Baltrėnas on the current situation on the frontline and Ukraine’s position regarding the conditions for a just peace.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of urgently receiving weapons, aircraft, and other military equipment from NATO partners, including surface-to-air guided missiles and air defense systems, to strengthen air defense capabilities in repelling massive aerial attacks by the Russian aggressor.

The participants in the talks supported expanding the efforts of NATO’s Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) Special Mission and the Ukraine-NATO Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Center (JATEC), which coordinate allied efforts in supplying international military assistance to Ukraine, logistics, training and force development, and achieving interoperability with the Alliance.

Following meetings with Ukrainian counterparts, Lieutenant General Baltrėnas noted the importance of Ukraine’s experience in organizing defense, implementing battlefield-tested innovations, and countering Russian UAVs.
